Do you have dreams of the future? Of course you do, we all do but they don’t always come true. How do you handle disappointments?
NOTE: The following is taken from one of William D. Horton DNGH, CL, OB articles.
A young woman went to her mother and told her how hard her life was and she didn’t think she was going to make it. She was tired of fighting and struggling and wanted to give up. Her mother did not say anything but went to the stove and filled three pots of water.
In the first pot she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs and in the third she placed ground coffee beans.
They boiled for about twenty minutes and the mother then took the carrots and eggs out and placed them on a plate. The coffee she ladled out and placed in a bowl. She then asked her daughter, “to feel the carrots” which were soft and mushy. She then asked the daughter to break the egg and after taking the shell off there was a hard boiled egg.
Finally she asked the daughter to sip the coffee which tasted and smell heavenly.
The daughter did as she was asked to and then asked, “what is the point?” The mother explained that “all of these objects had faced the same adversity, the boiling water, but each reacted differently. The carrots which had been strong and hard turned mushy. The egg had been very fragile and ended up with the inside harden. The coffee changed the water into a tasty, aroma drink.”
When your dreams become difficult and life get in the way ask yourself, Are you a carrot, weak and wilted, an egg, starting fragile and ending completely different? Does the shell look the same but the inside is bitter and tough; or are you like the coffee bean when adversity comes you change the situation for the better.
